Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged the newly appointed Chairman of the South West Development Commission, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, to fast-track development across the South-West geo-political zone.
Oyebanji emphasised the need for accelerated progress, particularly in agriculture, industrial growth, power and water supply, job creation, youth empowerment, as well as road and transport infrastructure.
The governor, who expressed confidence in Adetunmbi’s capacity to deliver in his new role, described his appointment—and those of other board members—as a “new dawn” in the quest for a better life for the people of the region.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Ado Ekiti by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Oyebanji thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing the Ifaki-Ekiti-born Adetunmbi as SWDC Board Chairman. He said the confirmation represents a call to duty aimed at elevating the region’s development and maintaining its status as a pacesetter in Nigeria.
He urged Adetunmbi to justify the confidence reposed in him by President Tinubu and to continue making Ekiti State proud, as he had done in his previous assignments.
“With his vast experience in both public and private sectors, Senator Adetunmbi is well-equipped to hit the ground running,” the governor stated. “This latest assignment offers him yet another opportunity to make a lasting impact in public service, building on his record of excellence in both long-term and ad-hoc roles.
“Senator Adetunmbi brings quality, pedigree, and competence to this office, and I have no doubt that he will succeed. He should lead efforts to fast-track development in the South-West in critical sectors including agriculture, industrialisation, energy, water, youth empowerment, and transport—thereby consolidating the region’s role as a national pacesetter”, he said.
Oyebanji further advised the SWDC chairman to discharge his duties with responsibility, integrity, and a deep commitment to impactful service.
The governor also congratulated Mr. Deji Ajijola, another Ekiti State indigene, on his confirmation as a member of the SWDC Board.
