Appointment of New OAU Vice-Chancellor: SSANU, NASU Read Riot Act

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have warned the management of the institution against the perceived foul play to impose an anointed candidate as Vice-Chancellor of the University.

While addressing pressmen at a press conference held at the OAU Campus, Mr. Ademola Oketunde, Chairman of SSANU and Mr. Wole Odewunmi, Chairman of NASU said although the union bodies were not backing any of the candidates, who applied for the position, but that the association would not allow any candidate to be imposed on the university through the back door.

The chairmen further said the university would witness a great change if the next vice-chancellor could be picked from outside the “current management caucus.” “We want integrity in the selection process of the next vice-chancellor of OAU. We have suffered a lot in the hands of these perpetrators called administrators in our university.
“For the past 15 years, workers in OAU have been in bondage. It is no longer bearable and we cannot afford to undergo another round of this ill treatment in the hands of this group.
“We want all universities in this country to be probed most especially OAU. The government should make the school management account for every kobo it has spent and in case you don’t know, we don’t have a governing council in the institution anymore.”
