The Ondo State command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the death of Mrs Rabiat Atere, a woman who was found dead in her farm in Oka-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government area of Ondo State.
As at press time, the real cause of the death was yet to be ascertained, though there is a strong suspicion that the deceased might have been killed by Fulani herdsmen.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the spokesman of the state Police Command who confirmed the incident noted that thorough investigation was being carried out to ascertain the cause of the woman’s death.
” I can confirm the incident to you, and the Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt to ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.”
However, the Akoko Youth Forum, the umbrella body of youths in the area has condemned the suspected killing of the woman in mysterious circumstances and also called on the police to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and also made to face the law.
This assertion was made by Mr Ibukunoluwa Akeju, the National president of the youth group. The statement pointed to Fulani herdsmen as the perpetrator of the killing.
“The Akoko Youth Forum strongly condemns the gruesome and unfortunate killing of Mrs. Rabiat Atere, a peaceful farmer and indigene of Ajo Quarter in Uba Oka Community, who was reportedly attacked and murdered while working on her farm.
“This heinous act, allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani assailants, is a direct attack on the peace and safety of our people, a threat we can no longer tolerate.” the statement read.
