Amitolu Shittu, the pioneer Field Commander, Amotekun Corps in Osun State has called for a painstaking profiling of candidates to be recruited into the proposed Forest Guards.
He made this point in an interview in Osogbo on Wednesday while also stating that the recruitment should be based on inputs from security experts cutting accross communities in the country.
“President Tinubu has good intentions for coming up with the idea of Forest Guards, but it is a delicate choice.
“He must direct the National Security Adviser and the Department of State Services to begin immediate profiling of those who would be recruited into the organisation.
“I don’t know the number of people that would be recruited into the organisation nationally, but it is important to start profiling these intakes.
“The profiling must start immediately for it to be thorough. The system must not be infiltrated by criminals. Due diligence must be done at the entry point,” Shittu said.
Shittu made it known that selection into the guard should be based solely on antecedents.
“The names of the pioneer intakes must be written after recommendations of people who know them and their capacity to do the job.
“Also, the Federal Government must devise means to monitor the intakes. Those who will monitor them must be able to locate them at any given time.
“It will be disastrous to employ someone as Forest Guard and the person is found sleeping in his house all day of the week. NSA must come up with strong monitoring mechanism.”
