Thirty-One (31) public primary schools across Lagos State are competing in a scholarship scheme sponsored by Sweet Thinkers, a non-governmental organization.

Olufunmilayo Olaniwun, the Chairperson/Convener of the Sweethinkers Initiative while speaking at the Ikeja Central Primary School Complex, Ikeja on Thursday explained that the project aimed to reward academic excellence among students from underprivileged backgrounds.

The first leg of the academic excellence scholarship initiative witnessed Over 2,000 students from 20 local government areas of the state.

She explained that the initiative was intended to elevate and project academic excellence among public school students in the state.

She said, “The process is split into four stages. This is the first stage of the competition; it is going to be an inter-local government, that is, schools within the LGAs would come together, write the exam, and then proceed from there.

“We will have two representatives within each local government. Currently, here in Ikeja, we have 31 schools, and we have two representatives from each of those schools.

“They are going to battle it out in a two-hour examination, which will be free and fair. After that, we’re going to have the marking of the scripts done, and then from there, we’re going to have the 10 students emerge from these local governments to move into the second phase.
