FC Robo better prepared for Nigeria Women Premier League, says Osahon

by Shina

Emmanuel Osahon has warned rivals that they will meet a stronger FC Robo when the Nigeria Women Premier League kicks off on Saturday.

The Lagos based outfit that unearthed Super Falcons’ Esther Sunday and Asisat Oshoala – and also pays the bill of Nigeria U17 women captain Rasheedat Ajibade are zoned in Group B with defending champions Rivers Angels, Conflence Queens, Delta Queens, Adamawa Queens, Martin White Doves, Capital City Dove, Taraba Queens and reigning Federation Cup winners Sunshine Queens.

Osahon is sure his team has the physical and mental strength to ensure they can cope with the intensity and difficulty of the run in to the end of the season.

“We are adequately prepared for the new season and with luck on our side, we will give a good account of ourselves,” Osahon told Goal.

“If the league kicks off on Saturday as planned, we will face Delta Queens and my girls will no doubt give their best because they are very young.”

He also pointed out some of the challenges hindering the growth of the Nigeria women topflight.

“Female football is yet to fully develop in Nigeria and that is a major problem,” he continued. “We are just handling it with passion to keep the girls away from the streets.”

“Another major issue is finance. Here, we are not saying one should give millions of naira but equipment and facilities should be made available to teams towards helping the course.

“Most times we are short of training balls, kits, and when we go for away games accommodation and transportation give us lot of headache.”

The champions for the NWPL 2015/16 season will be decided through the ‘champion of champions final’ format with winner of group A facing the winner of group B.
