The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has officially declared his intention to contest in the upcoming November 2024 gubernatorial election.

He made this announcement at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade ground in Akure,  expressing his desire to seek the nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to continue leading the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, addressing a gathering of party stakeholders from all 18 local government areas, emphasized his commitment to building an APC that respects and promotes its members while advocating for an Ondo State that works for its citizens.

The Governor acknowledged the support of party faithfuls and stakeholders, while highlighting his administration’s achievements in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and industrialization.

He promised to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor, the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, and continue the state’s development trajectory.

The declaration received resounding endorsement from APC elders across the state. Former ambassador to Togo, Chief Olushola Iji, commended the Governor’s humility and readiness for leadership, urging fellow elders to support his candidacy.

Former Deputy Senate Leader, Prof. Robert Ajayi Boroface, pledged his full support, emphasizing Governor Aiyedatiwa’s suitability for harnessing the state’s abundant resources.

Acting Chairman of the APC Elders Caucus, Chief Jamiu Ekungba, assured unwavering support, citing the Governor’s recognition of elders in his administration. Similarly, Chief Segun Ojo expressed determination to ensure the Governor’s victory, citing divine grace on his candidacy.

The Governor’s declaration sets the stage for a heated gubernatorial contest in November, with stakeholders and citizens eagerly awaiting the outcome of the APC primaries and subsequent general election.
