In line with its efforts to safeguard users’ personal data, Nigeria’s identity management agency (NIMC) has put in place strict access control on its self-service portal for National Identification Number (NIN) modifications.
The commission noted in its release on Thursday that individuals can now only access their self-service modification accounts from the original browser and device used during registration. Any attempt to log into the portal from another device or browser might lead to the account being locked.
“Your self-service account is uniquely tied to the browser and device used at the point of registration,” Head of Corporate Communications Dr Kayode Adegoke said.
Clearing the browser cache can also trigger a lockout, the agency said
Account that become locked can only attempt an unlocking process five times before the access is permanently revoked unless it is reset by the agency.
The move is part of the Commission’s broader push to enhance digital identity security amid growing demand for seamless access to official services. NIMC urged Nigerians to follow the updated guidelines to avoid service disruptions and delays.
