History is made in Nigeria as the first University of Medical Sciences, Ondo is formally inaugurated and the 275 new students admitted for the 2015/2016 session take the matriculation oath. UNIMED is the third of its kind in Africa and the first in Western part of Africa.
In a view to improve medical training and further strengthen health care delivery in the country, the Executive Governor of Ondo State Dr. Olusegun Mimiko instituted the Medical Village which houses Mother and Child Hospital; Trauma and Surgical Centre and the Kidney Care Centre equipped with the state of the art facilities for the students’ training.
The University started in full swing in July 2015 with all administrative and academic structure in place, which enabled the University to get the needed approval from Nigeria University Commission in December 2015.
