PROTEST IN ONDO AS HERDSMEN KILL FIVE FARMERS

by Adeyinka Adetan

There was palpable fear and apprehension in Akure, Ondo State as farmers protested the alleged massacre of five persons at Aba Oyinbo Community in Akure North Local Government by suspected Fulani Herdsmen.

It was reported that the herdsmen enveloped the community early on Wednesday, shooting at victims sporadically.

This event is coming barely two weeks after fourteen (14) people were reported killed in Ademekun, Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, and Alajido; all in Akure North Local Government.

It was reported that protesters stormed the Alagbaka Office of the Governor en masse requesting that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa should urgently hurt the recurring attacks on farmers.

A protester identified as Jonah laments the increasing incidence of killings in the local government, stating that the attackers entered the state through Edo State.

“We are being slaughtered without anyone doing anything. Akure North is under siege. We are farmers, not criminals. We are appealing to the governor, the police, the army, and Amotekun to save us before more lives are lost,” he said

However, security operatives have been deployed to the venue of the protest to maintain law and orderliness.
