Clement Anthony, a 40-year-old man who alleged murder a community leader has been arrested by men of the Bauchi State Police Command while a locally made single-barrel firearm allegedly used in the attack.
According to the statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu on Tuesday, the incident was reported at the ‘A’ Division Township Police Station on July 19, 2026, by a 47-year-old resident of Unguwar Ngas in Bauchi Local Government Area.
“The complainant stated that on the same date, while at Unguwar Ngas, Inkil, Bauchi, one Clement Anthony, a 40-year-old male of the same address, armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and intentionally fired it at Mr Jacob Bature, a 55-year-old male, Mai Anguwan Ngas, also of the same address. The victim sustained serious gunshot injuries to his right ribs and slumped unconscious, leaving him in a coma.
“He was immediately rushed to the ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor examined him and confirmed him dead as a result of the gunshot. The corpse has since been deposited in the hospital morgue for further investigation.
“Following the incident, police operatives swung into action and arrested the suspect. During the arrest, the locally made single-barrel gun and one empty cartridge were recovered from him.
“The suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
