The Lagos State Command of The Nigerian Police Force had apprehended Abubakar iliyasu, an escaping homicide suspect over the killing of Jane Okoye, a 65-year-old resident of Orile-Iganmu area of the State.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the official spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command made this disclosure in a statement on Sunday that the suspect was arrested by men of the Homicide section in Kogi State after a preliminary investigation.
According to him, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had forcibly gained access to the victim’s premises and fled with her Toyota Sienna vehicle. The victim was found unconscious and taken to a medical facility where she later passed on.
“Following the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for discreet and thorough investigation, a team of homicide detectives promptly swung into action, deploying both intelligence and technical resources to get the suspect apprehended and recover the stolen property.”
He also explained that the assailant had earlier fled Lagos in possession of the deceased belongings including a vehicle, but was later tracked and arrested with the items.
Hundeyin noted that the stolen vehicle was recovered in perfect condition and kept as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
