The Akwa Ibom command of the Nigerian Police Force has announced the apprehension of a 37 year old man named Joseph Eren over the demise of his neighbor following a violent fight in Ibesikpo Local Government Area of the state.
Timfon John, the command’s Public Relations Officer through a statement released on Sunday stated that the suspect was involved in a brawl with Ekopimo Moses, a youth leader in the local government who sustained injuries in the process.
She said the incident, which occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at about 6 pm, degenerated into a physical fight during which both of them resorted to using machetes.
Moses who was rushed to the hospital as a result of serious injuries he sustained in the fight later died in the hospital.
The police spokesperson said that a report by the village head about the fight between the two individuals led to the arrest of the suspect.
”The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a man following a violent altercation in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
”On Thursday, September 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM, Operatives of the Command received a report from a village head (name withheld).
“The village head stated that the community youth president, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, a 34-year-old male, had a misunderstanding with Joseph Okon Eren, a 37-year-old male who resides in the village but is originally from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA.
”The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which both men used machetes. Ekopimo Effiong Moses sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Hospital for urgent medical treatment. He was later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
”The suspect, Joseph Okon Eren, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the incident, has been recovered. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue”, the statement concluded.
She explained that the command has commenced investigation into the incident, adding that further details would be made available to the public as at when due.
