GRIDLOCK IN ABUJA AS TRAILER FALLS

by Adeyinka Adetan

The Kubwa expressway in the Federal Capital Territory has experienced a heavy gridlock in the early hours of Monday as a fallen trailer obstructed a major portion of the road.

Felix Theman, FCT Sector Commander made this disclosure to journalists, stating that the situation resulted to a gridlock due to the partial blockage of the expressway.

“There’s currently a gridlock because there’s no free flow of traffic, as a section of the expressway has been blocked by the fallen trailer. However, our officers are fully on ground, ensuring that motorists use the available service lane and the one or two lanes that are still accessible on the express,” he said.

He called on road-users to exercise caution on the roads as efforts are being made to ensure that the situation is resolved.

“It’s crucial that drivers exercise patience and cooperate with the officers on ground. Indiscipline, impatience, and lack of cooperation could compound the current traffic situation,” he added.

He also confirmed that efforts are underway to clear the obstruction, stating that the relevant towing services have been contacted.

“We’ve engaged the relevant towing company, Debasid, and their tow truck is already on its way to the scene. In no time, we hope to remove the trailer and restore normal traffic flow,” the sector commander noted.

The sector commander confirmed that it was an accident that led to the fallen trailer.

“Yes, it was a crash involving the trailer. One of the tyres pulled out. It fell and is currently lying across the road. Fortunately, there were no fatalities—just minor injuries.”
