A recently constructed female hostel situated at Sokoto State University was reportedly destroyed by fire on Tuesday. This sent panic and fear around the university.
The fire wish was reported ignited around 3:30pm razed through the entire building which was recently put in place to assuage accommodation difficulties experienced by students.
However, the cause and source of the fire couldn’t be ascertained immediately as students who spoke with news men said they don’t know what started the fire yet.
There was no fatality or injuries recorded as no student was inside the building when fire started as the student had already moved to another hostel as a result of a directives by the university management.
“The students who were initially assigned to this hostel had been moved to the old hostel. Only the school authorities can explain why,” the student added.
The Student’s Union President confirmed the incident to newsmen and explained that firefighters were deployed to the scene around 5pm to battle the resultant flames.
Authorities have yet to provide an official statement on the incident.
