The Nigerian Police Force Delta State Command has sounded a strong note of warning to Nigerians to exercise extreme caution in their handling of their ATM cards as criminals are now only card details to deprive victims of their hard earned money kept in their bank accounts.
The police warns that fraudsters now make use of simple card details such as card number, expiry details, and card CVV to carry out unauthorized transactions on on victims account.
This charge was made by SP Bright Edafe, the state Police Public Relations Officer in a post published on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday.
He wrote, ” Please take care and be careful in handling your ATM cards. Only a picture of these details in the hands of scammers, your money is gone. They don’t need to have your pin or your phone.
“They are not required to have an OTP. All you will see is debit upon debit until your money is completely wiped out. Take care of your cards, and don’t use your cards to send people on errands to help you buy anything. Don’t say the Police did not tell you. Peace.
The police spokesperson admonished Nigerians to desist from giving their cards to people, avoid sharing the image of their cards online or through social media platforms, and monitor their bank statements on regular basis.
