BOD Breaks Silence On The Last ODIEC Election, Calls for Redirection Of Purpose For The Future

by Ayomide Ayodele

Bolaji Omotayo Daramola (BOD), has raised concerns over the recently concluded Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) elections, describing the current state of the electoral process as a “ticking time bomb.”

In a strongly worded statement, BOD criticized the imposition of candidates in local government elections, questioning how such undemocratic practices have become normalized.

“After the last ODIEC election, I have been reflecting on our electoral process, and it is obvious we are on a ticking time bomb, just literally waiting to explode,” he stated.

He emphasized the need for a transparent and inclusive political system, stressing that sustainable community development requires the involvement of all stakeholders who genuinely care about societal progress.

“The Local Government Area (LGA) is the closest arm of government to the people, yet we see imposed candidates without resistance. How did we get here?” BOD questioned.

While making it clear that he is not an activist, BOD maintained that remaining silent in the face of these irregularities is no longer an option. He announced plans to establish a strong platform where every voice will be heard, ensuring a fair and credible internal democratic process moving forward.

“Silence at this point is suicidal. We will not stand by while democracy is eroded. A more open, fair, and credible process is non-negotiable.”
