Mrs. Lilian Adebayo, wife of the party’s former presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo has explained that despite the leadership crisis rocking the Social Democratic Party and a recent wave of defections by opposition politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress, her husband is not contemplating move from the SDP.
Mrs Lillian disclosed that the rumored exit of his husband from the SDP is false and misleading while received a delegation of SDP state Chairmen.
“There is no truth in the reports linking my husband to either the APC or other opposition parties,” she said.
“My husband, Prince Adewole Adebayo, joined the SDP when he was 19 years old, and he’s still with the same party. He’s had opportunities to move to other parties like the APC, PDP and others, but he never did.
“He has stayed committed to the SDP, and by the grace of God, in the next election, he’ll still be there. He’s not leaving the SDP for any other party whatsoever.”
While admitting that the SDP has a fair share of internal crisis, she appreciated the very strong internal crisis resolution mechanism that has ensured the party continues to wax stronger.
Se expressed strong optimism in her husband chances to do well in the forth coming presidential election due to his youthfulness, capacity, and passion for the Nigerian project.
“Every party has had its share of challenges, but the SDP has been able to handle its own very well. You don’t hear the kind of rancour and divisions that happen elsewhere. Whenever issues arise, they’re resolved quickly and peacefully,” she said.
“I believe he has a great chance if Nigerians are honest with themselves,” she stated.
“We’ve had presidents come and go without meaningful change. Nigerians must decide whether to continue on that path or choose someone young, capable, and ready to work.”
