A suspected cultist in possession of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Police Force during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of Lagos.
According to a statement released by SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Police Public Relations Officer on Saturday, officers intercepted a motorcycle conveying three passengers when the suspect, identified as Yusuf Lamina Adigun, 27, was found in possession of the weapon.
“During the search, one of the passengers, Yusuf Lamina Adigun, a 27-year-old male, was found in possession of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity. He further disclosed that he and other members of the cult group, who are currently at large, were on a mission to launch an attack on some individuals before they were intercepted by the Police.”
“The suspect is currently in Police custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal group and recover additional weapons that may be in their possession.
