The Ondo West chapter of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has in strong terms condemns the unjust and disturbing incident that occurred today at the APC Secretariat involving the unruly attack on the Acting Ondo State APC Chairman. Such an occurrence is not a good spectacle for our state and has no place in a democratic society.
In a statement released by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the party, comrade Ige Similoluwa, he stressed that all people of good conscience should jointly condemn injustice wherever it appears. In his words, he said “that an event may seem to be in one’s favour today does not warrant celebration or silence. Tomorrow, the same cycle of violence can turn anyone into a victim. Political violence is a threat to everyone and benefits no one in the long run”.
Speaking further, he emphasized that Ondo State has moved beyond a time where thuggery is tolerated or celebrated as a tool of political contest. “We must not encourage such acts in our polity. Our political space must be free from intimidation, attacks, and lawless conduct. Democracy thrives on dialogue, participation, and respect for differing views, not on fear or force”.
He therefore enjoined all political actors, supporters, and stakeholders across party lines to reject thuggery and uphold peace, civility, and the rule of law in Ondo State. “The Ondo West YPP stands firmly for a political culture rooted in justice, nonviolence, and democratic values”.
