LAGOS STATE COMMENCES REGISTRATION FOR FRESH ATHLETES

The Lagos State Sports Commission had commenced the profiling of intending athletes for the state in a bid to create a portal of the proper management of athletes database.

 

The commission commenced the important process of integrating junior and emerging athletes into the fold as well as readmitting senior athletes who want to continue to represent the state.

 

The process began last Monday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, and will run till November 1 sequel to the state’s triumph at the ninth edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

 

Lekan Fatodu, the Director-General of the commission disclosed that the initiative to upscale and innovate the process of talents identification in the state. He also noted that the process began last Monday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, and is scheduled to run till November 1.

 

“We are also bringing innovation to the process of engaging and empowering our future talents. I believe this is the first of its kind across the country. We want to have an identity and properly registered intakes in order to avoid a situation where our athletes will be anonymous.

 

“We are confident that this initiative will bring significant improvements in sports development, identifying gaps and areas for enhancement. The program applies to both junior and senior athletes, building on the success achieved with U-15 athletes, where parental engagement was crucial.”

 

He explained that the commission will introduce biometric data capture for proper profiling, access to facilities, monitoring, and career sustainability programmes for athletes, especially in preparation for life after active competition.
