Four suspected armed robbers terrorising members of the public along the Amansea and Awka environs have been apprehended by the Anambra State command of the Nigerian Police Force.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman for the command explained that men of the Response Squad, Awkuzu apprehended the suspects while they Also recover two pump-action guns and nine live cartridges.
According to the statement, the suspects alleged to the crime of kidnapping two individuals in Amansea and obtaining ransom from them after holding them in a bush at Ugwuoba, Enugu State until ransom were paid.
According to him, their arrest was based on credible intelligence on a case of kidnapping where a ransom of N5m was paid before the victims were released.
“Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in the early hours of September 1, 2025, arrested four male suspects and recovered two pump-action guns and nine live cartridges in Amansea, Awka.
“This was based on credible intelligence on a case of kidnapping where a ransom of N5m was paid before the victims were released.
“The case was earlier transferred to the unit from B Division Awka on August 14, 2025.
“The arrested suspects are: Chigozie Igboekwu, ‘M’, aged 31 years; Odumegwu Chibuike, ‘M’, aged 23 years; Jonah Awudu, ‘M’, aged 40 years; and Okechukwu Nwari, ‘M’, aged 33 years.
“The suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime and narrated how they conspired among themselves, on August 12, 2025, at about 7pm and kidnapped two victims in Amansea, Awka, kept them for two days in a bush at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, collected ransom before they were released.”
“The case shall be charged to the court on the conclusion. Meanwhile, operations are still ongoing to arrest other gang/syndicate members,” he added.
