POLICE RAID ILLEGAL MATERNITY HOME IN AKWA-IBOM

An illegal maternity home has been discovered by the Nigerian Police Force, Akwa-Ibom command. The maternity home deals in impersonation, child-trafficking, and unlawful medical practices.

 

Mr Timfon John the State Police Public Relations Officer revealed this in a press release made available in Uyo on Friday.

 

She explained that the illegal maternity home was detected in Usung Atiat, the Abak Local Government Area of the state.

 

She further revealed that while investigation is being carried out to ascertain other collaborators, the rescued women are currently under protective custody.

 

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command raided the premises and arrested a female, who was found harbouring seven pregnant women and five infants, aged between two weeks and one year.

 

“Further search led to the recovery of various medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunisation records, for which the suspect had no legal authorisation,” the PPRO said.

 

Timfon John further expressed the determination of the command to curtail all illegal activities in the state
