The Rivers State Police Command said its officers have arrested two persons for suspected murder in the Eleto community in Eleme Local Government Area of the state.
The police said the suspects allegedly abducted a youth at a piece of land in Okrika LGA and ferried him to neighbouring Eleme, where they committed the crime.
Spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Monday.
Iringe-Koko said their arrest followed a petition by the victim’s mother to the command over her missing son, identified as Sampson Worianime.
The statement reads, “The Rivers State Police Command has made significant progress in the investigation into the disappearance of Sampson Worianime, who was reported missing on November 11, 2025, after accompanying his Community Youth from Ogbogbo Community in Okrika to measure land at their old settlement.
“Following a distressing petition by the victim’s mother, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an investigation, leveraging intelligence led Policing, leading to the arrest of two suspects. They are (suspects) one Igwe Alex, 26-year-old, the CSO (Chief Security Officer) of Aleto-Eleme Community and John Mikel, aged 24, all of Aleto community in Eleme LGA.
“During a preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to abducting two youths from Okrika, including the victim. One escaped, while Worianime was killed by the suspects and his body dumped into a nearby river.
“The suspects led police operatives to the location where the corpse was buried, and the remains of the deceased victim were recovered from a shallow grave. The suspects are currently in Police custody, cooperating with a team of investigators. Efforts are underway to apprehend other accomplices.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed a thorough investigation to ensure that all perpetrators of this heinous crime are made to face the full wrath of the law.
The command, the statement continued, has assured the public of its commitment to justice and urges citizens to provide any information that may aid the ongoing investigation.
In December, the Edo State Police Command arrested one Eghosa Osas for the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Amadin Williams.
The command added that the suspect would be charged in court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
