Nurses in Ondo state government owned hospitals under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) have withdrawn their services leading to the grounding of medical services.
The decision to embark on the industrial action was announced at a press briefing that was held at Akure on Thursday.
The chairman of the union, Felix Orobode spoke out against the state government under Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for not prioritizing the welfare of the nurses in the state.
He noted that despite the crucial task that the nurses perform in ensuring that the health sector continue to perform creditably, and also against the backdrop of several challenges facing them, their welfare remains unattended to.
Mr Felix Orobode noted that despite the implementation of #73,000 minimum wage, the association rejected its implementation due to the irregularities in the salary adjustment under the CONHESS structure.
“The government’s refusal to address nurses’ welfare has left us with no other option but to take this action.
“Nurses can no longer endure the financial and professional neglect that has characterized our relationship with the government.
“We appeal to all well-meaning stakeholders and members of the public to understand and support our cause, as this action is ultimately in the best interest of healthcare delivery in Ondo State.
“Our members are therefore directed to stay off duty from 12:00 am Friday, January 31, 2025 until our demands are met.”
