Man bags Two and a Half Years For Stabbing Lover to Death

An Ondo State High Court sitting at Olokuta Prison, Akure had sentenced one man, Harrison Aghama to a two and a half years imprisonment with hard labour for the death of his lover, Faith Godspower a.k.a. Atinne.

Harrison who had been standing trial on a lone count charge of murder since the year 2010 was found guilty of manslaughter and convicted accordingly.

While delivering his judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Idowu Kolawole said the prosecution counsel for the State, Mr John Olowokere had been able to establish before the court that the accused caused the deceased’s death by stabbing her in the stomach.

Noting, according to available facts in the case, that Harrison and the the late Faith were having a relationship that warranted talking about marriage and the later threatened to marry another man in the neighborhood only a night to the before the incident, the judge said the attendant altercation and eventual stabbing avail for the defendant, the defense of provocation and thereby reduce the offense to manslaughter.

Earlier in his plea for clemency, the counsel to the defendant, Mr. Abdulrahaman Yusuf noted that his client had been in custody for too long and prayed for a light sentence.

It would be recalled that Harrison Aghama was arrested by the police in September, 2009 following a report of the incident which occurred at Mayowa Street, Okitipupa in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
