While delivering his judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Idowu Kolawole said the prosecution counsel for the State, Mr John Olowokere had been able to establish before the court that the accused caused the deceased’s death by stabbing her in the stomach.

Noting, according to available facts in the case, that Harrison and the the late Faith were having a relationship that warranted talking about marriage and the later threatened to marry another man in the neighborhood only a night to the before the incident, the judge said the attendant altercation and eventual stabbing avail for the defendant, the defense of provocation and thereby reduce the offense to manslaughter.

Earlier in his plea for clemency, the counsel to the defendant, Mr. Abdulrahaman Yusuf noted that his client had been in custody for too long and prayed for a light sentence.
