A two-bedroom flat apartment and seven shops was partially gutted by an early morning inferno in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Early on Sunday morning, around 4:56 a.m., there was an incident at No. 28 Ijoro Street, just off Asa-Dam Road. Thankfully, the firefighters acted swiftly, and only one shop in the building was affected before they managed to contain the fire.
Hassan Adekunle, the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service made this known in an official statement released on Sunday.
“The incident involved a building comprising a two-bedroom flat and seven shops, out of which one shop was affected by the fire.
“Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other shops and the residential apartment.
“Items affected by the fire included grinding machines, foodstuffs, and other valuable materials within the affected shop.
The initial findings suggest that a power surge might have triggered the fire by igniting some flammable materials in the shop.
