GAS EXPLOSION DESTROYS PROPERTIES IN NIGER

A reported gas explosion at Tasiu gas plant in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger state has caused massive destruction of properties following a failed gas tanker transloading operation.

The incident which according to report occurred around 11pm on Saturday has caused a heavy conflagration that set the gas station ablaze thereby destroying several vehicles and grains running into millions of Naira at a nearby processing factory.

The explosion occurred weeks after the unfortunate fire disaster that occurred at Dikko; an occurrence that claimed over 100 lives and left many injured and hospitalized.

However, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the explosion incident and attributed it to transfer of gas from a tanker to a surface tanker. According to NSEMA, no casualties or injuries were recorded.

“Ngeil grains processing factory behind the gas plant was also gutted by the inferno. About 550 bags of beans and six bags of soya beans were burnt in the factory.

“As of the time of filing this report, no life was lost, and the fire has been put under control”, he said.
