The Rivers State Executive Council has joyfully approved the immediate recruitment of 5,000 local residents into the state civil service.
This exciting decision was made during the second State Executive Council meeting of 2026, led by Governor Fubara and attended by his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, at the Government House on Tuesday.
Dr Honour Sirawoo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication who made this disclosure to newsmen also stated that the moves showcases the commitment of Gov. Fubara’s intention to strengthen the work force of the state and the education sector.
“We just concluded the State Executive Council Meeting presided over by the Executive Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
“Several issues were looked at, but more prominent was that the Rivers State Executive Council has approved the employment of 5,000 people into the state civil service. The move is designed to strengthen service delivery in the state, particularly the education sector,” Sirawoo said.
“You know the government has over time been employing. This administration is not about making so much noise about what it is doing because our services are for the entire Rivers people,” he added.
“This brings the number to about 9,500 persons that this administration has engaged. Recall that 1,500 had been recruited into the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, 2,000 for Medical Services, and 1,000 for Universal Basic Education,” he said.
“The process for the employment of these approved 5,000 persons will be well-guided to ensure that only qualified persons are recruited,” Sirawoo stated.
