Ekiti Teacher Dismissed for Impregnating Student

The Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has reportedly dismissed a secondary school teacher, Mr. Owoosi Gbenga, for allegedly impregnating a 17-year-old SS3 student of Alarelu Comprehensive High School, Igbara-Odo Ekiti.

 

Mr. Owoosi, who taught Economics at the above named school was found guilty of serious misconduct and criminal offense after a thorough investigation by the TESCOM Disciplinary Committee.

 

According to the Committee’s findings, Mr. Owoosi had previous records of misconduct by collaborating with students to steal laptop computers belonging to the school.

 

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Hon. Babatunde Abegunde, stated that the Commission followed due process before dismissing the class room teacher, emphasizing that the decision serves as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar unethical behavior.

 

The Disciplinary Committee also recommended that all teachers be sensitized on the Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Law 2019 and other related issues, and that schools be closely monitored to uphold moral norms and ethical standards.
