In a bid to improve access to quality basic education under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment project, the Bauchi State Government has disbursed N485 million to 12,133 adolescent girls.
Hajiya Ladi Mohammed, the Project Coordinator said the disbursement was carried out through the Conditional Cash Transfer component of the project, aimed at boosting school enrollment and transition for girls. She made this disclosure on Tuesday in Bauchi.
“We have created accounts for the 12,133 beneficiaries. Each adolescent student has her personal account and received N40,000 as registration and transition fees.
“Registration fee is N15,000, while transition fee is N25,000. We have distributed ATM cards and identification cards to about 80 per cent of the beneficiaries.
“We would have completed the distribution by now, but the delay is due to school closures. Preparations are in place to continue distribution after schools resume,” Mohammed added.
According to her, beneficiaries who achieve at least 75 per cent attendance in the first term would also received #10,000 as part of the project.
