The Young Progressive Party (YPP), Ondo West, has raised concerns over the rumored appointment of a 65-year-old as Secretary to the Local Government, citing contradictions with the state government’s commitment to youth inclusion.
In a statement signed by the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Oluwatomisin M. Fadoju, and made available to Ekimogun Mirror, the YPP expressed disappointment, arguing that such an appointment undermines intergenerational equity and limits opportunities for younger, dynamic individuals in governance.
“It is disheartening that a position previously held by a vibrant young leader has now been handed to a retiree, effectively slowing progress toward inclusive youth representation,” the statement read.
The party further criticized the administration’s stance on youth involvement, noting that while the government has consistently promoted “youth inclusion,” its actions appear contradictory when key positions are awarded to older individuals rather than young, capable professionals eager to contribute fresh ideas to governance.
While acknowledging the value of experience, the YPP emphasized the need for balance, stating that sustainable community development requires both wisdom from seasoned leaders and the energy and innovation of younger generations.
The party, therefore, urged the government to reconsider the appointment in the interest of inclusive governance and posterity.
