Health workers in Government Hospitals in Ondo City comprising of Doctors, Nurses, Laboratory staff, Physiologists, Pharmacists, Physiotherapist, Dieticians, Radiographers, Technicians, etc came out en masse today, 3rd of May, 2016 to protest the non-payment of their five months salaries.
The Health workers were seen converging in groups in the early hours of the day discussing the modalities for the protest. The protest which took off around 10.00 am from the medical village, Ondo was said to be a peaceful and orderly demonstration.
The protesters, carrying placards with various inscriptions headed to the Palace of the Osemawe of Ondo, HRM, Oba (Dr.) Victor Kiladejo, who is also a Medical Doctor.
The Osemawe while addressing the protesters appealed to them and promised to strongly pass their views and opinions to the Governor. He said “Governor Mimiko is not unaware of the situation on ground and I can assure you he’s working on getting on top of the situation”. He said “I will passionately discuss the matter with Mr. Governor and I can assure you of a positive solution”.
The Osemawe appealed to them to go back to their duty posts and continue to attend to their patients.
One of the protesters (name withheld) who spoke with ekimogunmirror said the joint union is determined on getting five months salaries or nothing.
You will recall that Ondo State Government is among the 27 states of the federation that are unable to pay the salaries of their workers.
