Calmness has been restored to Kaiama community, headquarters of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by security operatives after a protest by some aggrieved youths.
The youths of the community were said to have undertaken the protest as a result of a violent attack on Madam Zaria, a local farmer by some youths from the north.
It was reported that the assailant entered into Madam Zaria’s farm to defecate, a situation which led to an altercation between then. The assailant however used her cutlass to attack her and thereafter fled the scene.
The development is said to have angered the youths who staged the protest thinking the suspect is being shielded by the leadership of the Hausa community in Kaiama.
“Madam Zaria saw one Hausa boy defecating in her farm, and she confronted him resulting in a scuffle.
“The Hausa boy used her machete to cut her and fled only for her son to discover his mother in a pool of her own blood.
“He raised the alarm which attracted other people and the youths protested over the incident because they thought the Housa community was hiding the boy,” the source said.
There was swift deployment of security operatives to the environment in a bid to forestall the breakdown of law and order. When contacted, Musa Mohammed, the spokesperson for the command affirmed that law and order has been restored.
“Security operatives were quickly deployed in the community and law and order has been restored,” he stated.
