The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State yesterday said it was not disturbed by the exit of ex-Senator Ayo Akinyelure and Dr. Pius Osunyikanmi, Director of Technical Aids Corps from the party to the opposition party.
PDP Director of Publicity in the state, Mr. Ayo Fadaka stated this in a statement signed and made available to The Hope.
According to him, the duo of Akinyelure a former PDP Senator representing the Ondo Central Senatorial District and Osunyikanmi who recently decamped from the PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) have since been replaced in their respective local governments with more reliable people.
“We take very serious view of the action of these gentlemen and have since come to the conclusion that their action is absolutely propelled by personal goals, which is dictated by their individual ambitions, which cannot be operationalised in the PDP.
“We also note that the fact that the party failed the Senatorial election in the Central Senatorial District where we fielded Akinyelure, was because the people of the District are yet to forgive him for voting in favour of child marriage during his era of absolute un-productivity while he was a Senator and we are also of the understanding of the fact that Osunyikanmi remains an appointee of the Federal Government and is also desirous of keeping his job.
“We therefore declare that these men who were truly acolytes of Dr Olusegun Mimiko, who is solely responsible for their emergence on our political space, owe all their political contents and relevance to him, have just began a journey into political irrelevance, and as such are bereft of any capability to injure the spread and influence of our party in this State.
“We also wish to let the APC know that it should not rejoice at the coming of these men as their Party in this State will witness more turmoil than any good. For us in the PDP, we have since discarded and obliterated them from all our scheming and planning as much more reliable people have since replaced them in their respective Local Governments.”
Fadaka expressed optimism that come next year’s gubernatorial election, the PDP will again vanquish the APC in Ondo State.
