The Ondo State Government on Wednesday, September 07, 2016 has confirmed a case of Lassa Lever in Owo and Ose Local Governments Areas of the state and two other suspected cases under investigation.
Speaking through the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju on Wednesday in an interview with reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the state government confirmed the case. He said that the dreaded disease was identified at the Federal Medical Centre located in the town and had been referred to the General Hospital Irrua in Edo State for treatment.
Adeyanju said the government swung into action on Lassa Fever, following the reported cases of the disease in Edo states which shares border with Ondo State.
He said the government activated its disease surveillance and notification structures with a view to detecting any case on time as well as deploy as to deploy appropriate measures to contain the spread and that the strategy paid off on Wednesday following the discovery of a case in the state.
Adeyanju further noted that widespread sensitisation programmes were ongoing, assuring the residents of the state that there was no cause for alarm.
