Ondo Labour Party alleges Mimiko of destabilizing party

The Ondo State chapter of the Labour Party has accused the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, a former leader of the party in the state, who dumped it for the Peoples Democratic Party, shortly before the 2015 general elections of attempting to destabilise the party ahead of the state’s local government election in April. The party also reiterated its decision on its withdrawal from the council polls.

The party’s secretary, Ronke Akerele, in a statement on Tuesday in Akure, said there was a plan by the governor to keep a fifth columnists as fake members of the party to further his selfish interest. She stated: “We hereby state clearly that anyone who is not known to our party cannot speak or represent our party in any capacity, we also wish to inform the general public that Labour Party shall not participate in the waddle council election. The party appeals to the governor to channel his energy to the task of governing the state at this critical period.”

Ms. Akerele said LP would engage the government in constructive criticism for the benefit of all, rather than petty issues of divisive politics that was fast becoming the trademark of the governor. She added that “We passionately appeal to the Governor to pay the salary arrears of the workers of Ondo State as soon as possible to reduce the untold hardship of the people,”
