Nigerian Leaders Are Not Good Speakers Of English Language – Prof. Adeyemi Daramola

At the recent public presentation of two new books authored by Prof. Segun Awonusi from the University of Lagos, a university don, Prof Adeyemi Daramola of the Department of English and Literary Studies from the same school described Nigerian leaders as not competent enough in their use of English Language in their administrative duties.

While addressing students and staff of the school at the public presentation he said, “The English Language is not properly used at all in Nigeria. The people in government, corporate organisations and individuals don’t know how to use the language properly. It is unfortunate that all Nigerian Presidents and Heads of State, past and present, including politicians, don’t speak English properly. Immediate President Goodluck Jonathan’s command of the language was very poor and his wife was even poorer”.

Daramola further went ahead to employ all hand to be on deck to revive the dwindling use of English Language in the country. Other dignitaries at the event include; Prof. Rahman Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos; Dr Shodade representing Gov. Ibikunle Amosun; Prof Akin Ibidapo-Obe, Dean, Faculty of Law, UNILAG among other dignitaries.
