Ahead of the February 21, 2026, State Assembly by-elections, the Kano State Police Command has announced movement restrictions in Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government.
The disclosure is made sequel to a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, chaired by the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kano, Zango Abdu, held on February 19, 2026.
CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the state Police Public Relations Officer stated in an official statement released on Thursday stated that the “consultative committe met today, 19th February 2026 and concluded security arrangements ahead of the upcoming by-elections in Kano Municipal and Ungogo LGAs State Constituencies, slated for February 21, 2026.”
The statement explained that Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the commissioner of police who also doubles as the Co-Chair of the consultative committee noted that “the police in collaboration with other security agencies, has put all necessary measures in place to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, credible, transparent, and successful by-elections for Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Constituencies.”
“Movement of motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles is strictly restricted from 12:00 am midnight to 6:00 pm on Saturday, 21st February 2026, being the Election Day, proper.”
“Exceptions will only be granted to vehicles on essential services, such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and vehicles of electoral officers and accredited election observers.”
“Only eligible voters will be allowed at polling units,” while “only agents officially identified by INEC will be permitted at polling units.”
”The carrying of weapons of any kind is strictly prohibited.”
“Individuals wearing clothing or carrying items with political party logos or identities will not be allowed at polling units,” adding that “loitering in or around polling units will not be tolerated.”
”State security outfits such as Vigilante Groups, Neighbourhood Watch, Hisbah, KAROTA personnel, etc. will not be allowed at polling units.”
”Security agencies will continue to remain apolitical, impartial, professional, neutral, and civil in the discharge of their duties,”
