Governor Aiyedatiwa Suspends Caretaker Chairmen in Ondo

The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has suspended the caretaker chairmen of the 18 local government areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The caretaker chairmen will remain suspended until the court determines the case.

An Akure High Court presided over by Justice Yemi Fasanmi, granted an interim injunction filed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This injunction aimed to prevent Governor Akeredolu from inaugurating any individuals not democratically elected as members of caretaker committees to oversee the local councils and LCDAs until the court decides on this matter.

Subsequently, Justice Fasanmi prohibited the caretaker chairmen from operating after they had resumed office, citing that they were sworn in before the court order was granted.

The suspension of the caretaker chairmen by Aiyedatiwa was conveyed in a letter issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, signed by Alonge Adewale.
