El-Kanemi players get seven months salaries

El-Kanemi Warriors players have been paid seven out of the 10 months salaries they are owed by the management of the club.

Borno state government had approved the sum of N75 million to clear the players’ outstanding wages.

The Maiduguri based outfit who finished 13th in the Nigeria topflight having endured a torrid season where they had 14 wins, seven draws and 17 defeats.

“The players have been paid their salary and outstanding match bonuses. It was sent into their bank accounts,” club media officer Anthony Obaseki confirmed toGoal.

“We are still expecting more from the government in order to kick off preparation for the new season on time.

“It was tough last season and we are prepared to do better when the league resumes.”

He also dismissed claims coach Kelechi Emeteole will be fired having failed to secure a continental ticket for the two times Federation Cup champions.

“For now he [Emeteole] remains in charge of the team,” he continued.

“We are not thinking towards that direction and should the unexpected happen, I will make it known to the public.

“Our ambition is to have a good outing next season and we will be resuming camp by January,” he concluded.
