An 80-year-old community leader, Rev. Titus Ogundare, has donated N2m worth of solar-powered streetlights to the Funbi Fagun Community in Ondo Town, Ondo West LGA, Ondo State.
The donation, made through his children as part of his 80th birthday celebrations, aims to improve security and accessibility in the community. Reports has it that eighteen solar-powered streetlights were installed under the project.
Pastor Ayoola Ogundare, one of Ogundare’s sons, said the initiative reflected his father’s lifelong commitment to community development. “Our father turns 80, and we are very happy. The solar streetlights project demonstrates his dedication to improving the community,” he said.
He added that individuals and groups should complement government efforts in enhancing living conditions. ‘The project will help residents move comfortably, especially at night,’ he said.
Rev. Ogundare, described by his son as “a very spiritual man of God”, thanked God for granting him long life. ‘I least expected to reach 80. ‘I am grateful to God for keeping me alive and for my children to celebrate me,’ he said.
He recounted his years of service to the church and community, including ten years as secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria and 22 years as secretary of the Funbi Fagun Landlords Association. He also noted that the Benin Electricity Distribution Company had previously donated cement electricity poles in recognition of his contributions.
A resident, Kunle Johnson, praised the initiative, saying the streetlights would enhance security and reduce criminal activities in the area.
