The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) met on Thursday, 6th March 2025, at the National Secretariat, Abuja. The meeting tagged “Charity Begins at Home” marked a significant milestone in our party’s journey towards recalibration and restructuring.
As we strive for leadership change in Nigeria, we recognize that charity begins at home. Thus, we have resolved to commence the recalibration and restructuring of our party across all states in the federation. This process aims to reposition the YPP as a competitive and credible alternative, inspiring confidence among Nigerians.
RESOLUTION OF THE NWC
The following resolutions were adopted during the meeting:
1. The immediate commencement of the sale of nomination forms to aspirants from Anambra State who want to run for the gubernatorial election on the platform of the party. While the expression of interest form is free, the nomination form will cost N20m (twenty million Naira only). However, nomination forms for women are free and youth between the ages of 35-40 years are only required to pay half of the cost of nomination forms.
2. The appointment of Barr. Okemili Greg, a former House of Assembly member as the Acting Chairman of the Imo State chapter of the Young Progressives Party, replacing Mr. Kingsley Nwahiri with immediate effect. We express our gratitude to Mr. Nwahiri for his dedication and service to the party.
3. The constitution of a 13-member caretaker committee for the Plateau State chapter of the Young Progressives Party following the dissolution of the State Executive Council. This committee, led by Mr. Myles Jack Davou as the Chairman will oversee the affairs of the party pending the conduct of a State congress to elect new State Executive Council members.
4. That the restructuring effort is an ongoing exercise within the party and will involve reorganization of party machinery and refinement of policies to better align with needs and aspirations of Nigerians. This strategic move seeks to position the YPP as a formidable force in Nigerian politics capable of challenging the ruling party.
5. We demand an independent investigation into the allegation of sexual harassment against the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, by Sen. Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan. While we condemn all forms of sexual harassment against women, proper investigation must be carried out by an independent judicial panel of inquiry for the truth to be established so that justice can be served. The credibility of the legislative arm of government is sacrosanct and must not be sacrificed on the altar of legislative solidarity.
6. We urge all political leaders in Rivers, Lagos and Osun States to uphold the rule of law, as this is the foundation of lasting peace. The judiciary and police must remain impartial and resistant to external influences, ensuring judgments are based on truth, equity and justice, rather than serving narrow interests. In the absence of justice, peace cannot prevail.
7. That the stark contrast between the affluence of the ruling class and the excruciating poverty of the masses threatens to spark a class war, especially given the erosion of the middle class by the anti-masses policies of the government over the past two years, hence we urge President Ahmed Bola Tinubu led government to reassess its policies. We demand a shift from the intermittent increases in taxes, levies, charges, and tariffs to drastic reduction in the cost of governance and this can be achieved by revisiting the Orosanye report, which provides recommendations for rationalizing and reducing the cost of governance in Nigeria.
