AMAJU PINNICK LOSES FIFA COUNCIL SEAT BY ONE VOTE

Mr Amaju Pinnick, a former President of the Nigerian Football Federation has lost his bid to be re-elected into the FIFA council by just one vote.

 

Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi won the last seat with a total of 29 votes while Pinnick got 28 votes in the Confederation of African Football General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday.

 

Fouzi Lekjaa from Morroco occupied the top spot in the election with 49 votes, while Egypt’s Hani Rida and Niger’s Djibrilla Hamidou each polled 35 votes. Ahmed Yahya and Waberi who are from Mauritania also secured their places with 29 votes apiece.

 

The result of the election marks a setback for Pinnick, who had served on FIFA’s highest decision-making body since 2021 and was aspiring to continue his tenure.

 

In the women’s category, Kanizat Ibrahim from Comoros won the seat with thirty (30) votes, defeating Lydia Nsekera who got thirteen (13) votes and Isha Johansen who got seven (7) votes.
