AIYEDATIWA LAUDS FALLEN HEROES, CALLS FOR NATIONAL UNITY IN ALL RAMIFICATIONS

Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment channelled towards peace and security at home and in international peacekeeping missions.

 

The governor gave the commendation at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Jum’at service held in Akure, where he paid congruous tribute to officers and men of the military and other security agencies who have made sacrifices in the defence of the nation, including those who paid the supreme price.

 

Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes and promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across religious and ethnic divides.

 

He appreciated the various security chiefs for their cooperation and dedication to the protection of lives and property, urging citizens to show kindness and support to former servicemen and paramilitary personnel in society.

 

The governor stressed that men and women of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies deserve the unflinching support and cooperation of the public, having made great sacrifices for the sovereignty and safety of the nation.

 

He said, “We often hear about the killing of security officers. These people are paying the highest price for the safety of our nation. We deeply appreciate the sacrifices of our soldiers, the navy, the police and other paramilitary agencies for the survival of our state and country.”

 

The governor also encouraged members of the public to support the Nigerian Legion through the purchase of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem.

 

Aiyedatiwa further expressed appreciation to the Chief Imam of Akure for his prayers and moral support, noting that prayers offered for the government ultimately translate to peace and security for the entire state.

 

In his remarks, the Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Dr Abdulhakeem Yayi Akorede, urged all tiers of government to continue supporting the Armed Forces and called for peace and unity across the country.

 

The Chief Imam commended Aiyedatiwa for the infrastructure development in Akure and other parts of the state, expressing confidence that the administration would continue to take care of members of the Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives to protect the nation.

 

He charged security personnel not to relent in their efforts to ensure peace and safety, stressing that peace remains critical to societal development. He also offered prayers for the Armed Forces and the present administration for divine guidance and direction.

 

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Ondo State, Major Folorunso Ajibowu Akingboju (retd.), lauded the state government for prioritising the welfare of legion members, citing the governor’s voluntary donation of his one-month salary towards the launch of the Remembrance Day emblem.

 

The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council, serving security operatives, officials of the Nigerian Legion, women leaders, civil servants and other dignitaries
