The Olusegun Obasanjo Hall at Adeyemi College of Education was filled to capacity, as fans of the Africulture Renaissance Team came to watch “Ajantiele”.
“Ajantiele” is a play, which portrays how African culture was lost to the colonial masters. It goes beyond telling historical antecedent in Africa, it’s an epilog of cultural didacticism and full pledge entertainment.
Ajantiele is a story adapted from “ORUWO” written by Mr. Azeez Michael (Ajakaye). The drama “Ajantiele” entails two parts; the first part is about the corrupt king “Kujenmi” who sold some of his people into slavery because of eye glasses and alcoholic wine from the Europeans. The second part mirrored a love affair between “Betiku” (a beautiful lady that comes from a rich family) and “Kuye” (a young man from a poor family), the love was later broken by unknown person.
Azeez Micheal Kehinde (Ajakaye), the producer and director of the play, while speaking with EM said “this play is inspired by my love for African culture and the passion to promote it. When people hear you talk about culture they perceived you to be an herbalist but there is whole lot of difference between culture and religion”.
